NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexicanas) Outline for product safety certification in Mexico

The Mexican Federal law on Metrology and Standardization has defined Mexico conformity system as enforced certification, NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexicanas)and self certification NMX (Normas Mexicanas). If your product belongs to NOM item which is enforced certification, you must achieve NOM certification for clearance and sales. Certification showing conformity to NOM and NMX, must be issued from approved organization.

NOM certification(Norma Oficial Mexicana )

• - Enforced regulation in Mexico(Mexican Regulation)
• - Has been established in National Consultative Committees
• - Official annoncement from relevant government deparment

NMX (Mexican standards)

• - Self certification to assure quality conformity
• - Standard established by self through national organization for standardization and technial commitees
• - Officially announced by relevant national organization for standardization or SE (Ministry of Economy)

So to check the status accurately where your products belong, sending product HS code and information to relevant organization is the most accurate way. Among certification item such as electric and electronic product, information, communication device, etc. are managed by ANCE and NYCE.
